• PETA wants to replace Punxsutawney Phil with coin toss

The animal rights group PETA wants to replace Punxsutawney Phil, the iconic Groundhog Day weather forecaster, with a gold coin.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s president Tom Dunkel urging him to swap out Pennsylvania’s most famous groundhog for a gold coin on next Friday’s Groundhog Day. PETA called for Punxsutawney Phil to be allowed to live the rest of his life at a sanctuary.

The group argued Phil’s weather predictions are no more reliable than a coin toss.

• Former Pittsburgher, ‘Greatest Showman’ singer competes on ‘AGT: Fantasy League’

Although she’s becoming known as the true singer of “Never Enough” in 2017’s movie musical hit “The Greatest Showman,” former Pittsburgher Loren Allred said, “Enough!” to a career in the public eye after her first reality show experience on NBC’s “The Voice” in 2012.

It took a decade to find her way back, but now she’s competing on NBC’s latest iteration of “America’s Got Talent,” “AGT: Fantasy League” (8-10 p.m. Monday, WPXI-TV). Her “Never Enough” performance was even featured in “AGT” promos this past weekend on NBC.

• Innamorato appoints public defender, nominates solicitor

For the first time, two of the top lawyers in Allegheny County government are Black women.

On Monday, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato appointed Lena Bryan-Henderson as the county’s chief public defender. She also nominated Rosalyn Guy-McCorkle for county solicitor.

Pittsburgh Pirates great Roberto Clemente may be honored on a commemorative coin if a measure currently before Congress is approved.

• PWSA to hike residential rates by nearly $14 per month

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority will soon raise average residential rates by nearly $14 per month.

• Val Porter departs WDVE Morning Show

Those listening to 3WS Tuesday morning probably heard a familiar voice from another station.
