This article includes suggestions from the budget friendly to the absolutely decadent. There are also few official Dungeons & Dragons products on the list because chances are they already own things like the Player’s Handbook and Xanathar’s Guide To Everything. I’ve included direct links to manufacurers in the article but if you are able, check your Friendly Local Gaming Stores for availability on these items.

A new set of dice is a pretty solid choice for a gift. Players love a shiny new set of math rocks and now they can be found everywhere from the dollar store to handmade shops to boutique manufacturers. Dispel Dice trends toward the higher end of the price spectrum but one look at their sets shows why they can charge a premium.

The success of Dispel Dice highlights how playing D&D can be more than just a hobby. The website also offers candles, coasters and apparel. If your player considers the game more like a lifestyle than a pasttime, this shop is for you.

This series of books continues to be a perennial suggestion whenever someone asks me what to check out when showing an interest in the game. Dungeons & Dragons Young Adventurer’s Guides explain game concepts and world lore with straightforward text and gorgeous art. They’re made for kids but adventurers of any age will find them useful as they make their way into the world of role playing games.

This year’s entry includes a choice directly aimed at making characters an easier process. Characters & Quests offers a guided method to making characters plus ample space for notes on the adventuring party and the adventures they get up to. Players who own this book no longer have to worry about notes scribbled in margins that nobody can decode until its too late.

The character sheet is the heart of the D&D experience. It explains the characters capabilities and contains notes about their stories. It’s also often in danger of being damaged by pets, spilled drinks and the looming threat of greasy pizza at game night.

The Dragon Shield Player Companion offers a place to pack all the necessities for game night into one place like the character sheet, dice, miniatures and even a game book or two. My favorite feature is the clear plastic overlay that allows the plaer to use dry erase markers on their character sheet to save wear and tear. There’s also a version for Dungeon Masters who work on the road.

Dungeons & Dragons players love to explore new options for their characters. They want cool new magic items, class abilties and, of course, spells. One of the best companies producing D&D content just collected hundreds of spells in a new slipcase book set.

Deep Magic from Kobold Press offers new spells, new character options and new ways on how to build magic into a campaign world. The slipcase set collects both volumes which offer nearly a thousand spells created by some of the best D&D writers in the business. Even players that don’t play magic using characters will find inspiration for new magic items and other elements of play.

I’ve talked about this deck before but I recently broke it out during a session where the characters were taking a break in game to rest and recuperate. It generated some of the best role playing in the session as everyone sat around in a bar and deepened their characters through in game discussion. I indluced the link to that article so, just in case none of these items seem like a good fit, you can head down the rabbit hole to find something that does.

Set Of Dnd Dice The Ultimate RPG Campfire Deck asks players to draw two cards during a downtime moment within a campaign. Each card contains a question and they ask one to another character and one to themselves. It’s a great way to reveal backstory and forge connections during a moment of game that’s usually devoted to healing, restoring spells and bookkeeping in between battles.
