Denim fabrics with authentic constructions and heavy weights are part of Lenzing’s new collection positioned for the men’s and unisex markets.
This week at Kingpins Amsterdam, the lyocell producer will present the Matte Tencel Denim Capsule Collection, a line of garments made with fabrics from 13 mill partners using the company’s low-luster Tencel lyocell fibers. The fabrics are made with a minimum of 40 percent matte Tencel, delivering fabrics with high heft, higher opaqueness and less sheen, said Tuncay Kilickan, Lenzing’s head of global business development, denim. Launched in 2021, matte Tencel is specially designed to scatter light and permanently diminish sheen in denim applications. The fiber was engineered to offer fabric manufacturers the same sustainable and performance benefits as regular Tencel but with greater design versatility.
The first applications yielded lightweight fabrics for the women’s denim market. “However, by continuing our R&D, we were able to go a step further, now also capturing the men’s wear segment where shine as a feature is even less sought out,” Kilickan added.
The Matte Tencel Denim Capsule Collection spotlights fabrics that have the cotton-like appearance like authentic denim fabric, while retaining Tencel’s soft and luxurious properties, said Sabur Iftikhar Qureshi, general manager marketing of Artistic Fabric Mills, one of the mills that participated in the collection.
