Motorola is reportedly gearing up to launch a new budget smartphone that has been assigned the codename Penang. Now, the device could either launch under the Moto G-series or the Moto E-series.

Also, the Lenovo-owned company might launch a Plus model. So, the Moto Penang series could comprise a standard and a Plus model.

Now, the Moto Penang and Penang Plus have appeared on the FCC certification website. This is a major sign that the Moto phones are headed to the market soon.

The FCC listing reveals a few key details about the purported handsets. To recap, a low-end Motorola phone was recently spotted on TENAA with model number XT2335-3.

The Moto Penang’s FCC listing confirms it has model number XT2331-1. Also, it will probably carry an affordable price tag like the low-end Motorola XT2335-3.

Moreover, the device will come with 20W fast charging support. According to the listing, the Moto Penang will pack a 5000mAh battery unit. Also, Penang will feature a dual-SIM slot.

The same phone recently made an appearance on the WiFi Alliance website with dual-band Wi-Fi. Aside from this, the Moto Penang has passed through the EEC website.

However, the FCC listing does not divulge more details about the Penang smartphone. Still, tipster Evan Blass (via Gadget Gang) shared the Moto Penang design renders.

The smartphone has a curved back and its frame appears to be slightly flat. Also, it has a hole-punch cutout at the top center to house the selfie camera.

It has a thick chin but slimmer bezels surrounding the display. For optics, the Penang houses a dual rear camera setup with an LED flash.

The report claims the Moto Penang will ship with at least 4GB of RAM and offer 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. According to Blass, this device will support a 5G network.

This suggests the Penang could be a mid-range smartphone. Likewise, the Penang Plus has model number XT2333-3. The phone’s FCC listing shows a dual-SIM slot. Also, it confirms the device will support 33W fast charging.

Lastly, the Penang Plus has appeared on EEC and IMEI websites as well. In other words, it is on the verge of breaking the cover soon. In the meantime, the Motorola X40 has managed to break through 1.31 million running points on AnTuTu.
